About Ivan Okuda

Ivan is a Legal Associate at the firm. Prior to joining Anguria & Co. Advocates, he was a Special Projects and Investigations writer with the Nation Media Group’s Daily Monitor, a newspaper he started writing for as a high school student. This close to a decade experience in the media earned him a rich network across the East African region and beyond in governments, civil society, high net worth individuals, civil society organisations, politics and the decision making architecture of formal and informal spheres of power, experience that more often than not comes in handy when dealing with clients’ complex issues and business interests.

Ivan’s areas of interest and practice range from Technology, Media and Telecom Law, Intellectual Property Law, Corporate and Commercial transactions, real estate law, civil and criminal litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Ivan has also offered legal, political risk assessment, due-diligence, communication, research and analysis consulting for national, regional and international organisations including: The Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa (OSIEA), Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI), International Land Coalition, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), World Bank (Uganda Country Office), European Union Delegation to Uganda, Uganda Prisons Service, Great Lakes Institute for Strategic Studies (GLISS), Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE), Anti-Corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU), African Institute for Energy Governance (AFIEGO), the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Aljazeera TV, among others. He also sits on advisory teams of some of Uganda’s business and political leaders.

Ivan holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Makerere University, Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Center, Master of Arts (Journalism and Media Studies) with specialty in Media Law and Ethics and Investigative Journalism from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg where he was a Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Media Africa Scholar in 2019. He is currently pursuing a Master of Laws (LLM) in Corporate and Commercial Law from the University of London. He is an alumnus of the USA State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
